Brad A. McDowell focuses his practice on commercial litigation, business law, real estate and development. Mr. McDowell employs outside-the-box thinking coupled with tested business acumen to provide representation and advice for a wide variety of clients on a wide variety of issues.
Raised in Sacramento, Brad departed the region in 1992, after graduating from Jesuit High School, seeking educational endeavors at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles and DePaul College of Law in Chicago. After seeing enough of the country to convince him that his parent’s were not crazy for planting roots in the central valley, Mr. McDowell returned to Sacramento in 2000, where he has since established himself in the legal community.
Mr. McDowell began his legal career in the vicious pits of personal injury, premises liability and mass-torts. In 2005, an opportunity allowed him to shift his focus towards the business and commercial world, serving as in-house counsel for a boutique land development firm. There he gained both the studied and the applied knowledge of real estate, land use, transactional, and business law; the cornerstones of his current practice.
In the first phase of his career Brad recovered tens of millions of dollars for victims of dangerous pharmaceuticals and toxic materials. Since concentrating on commercial law, Brad has developed hundreds of residential lots, assisted commercial developments from conception to final permit, and has negotiated thousands of square feet of leased commercial space. On behalf of a national homebuilder, Brad successfully avoided attachment of more than $24 million in company assets, and has recovered millions more in the form of secured real estate for other clients.
When not in the office, you may find Brad golfing or fishing or spending time with his wife, one year old son, and their two dogs. Sporting a robust sense of humor, and being an avid film fan, Brad will be sure to impart a few lines of his favorite films when appropriate…and even when not.
